Project 3

Project 3: Research

For project three we are doing 5 modern sculpture models using primitives in Maya.

Heres some research I did to get me started.
constructivism- nonrepresentational style of art developed by a group of Russian artists principally in the early 20th century, characterized chiefly by a severely formal organization of mass, volume, and space, and by the employment of modern industrial materials.

another definition:
A movement in modern art originating in Moscow in 1920 and characterized by the use of industrial materials such as glass, sheet metal, and plastic to create nonrepresentational, often geometric objects.

minimalism
- an art movement in sculpture and painting that began in the 1950s and emphasized extreme simplification of form and color

another definition:

A school of abstract painting and sculpture that emphasizes extreme simplification of form, as by the use of basic shapes and monochromatic palettes of primary colors, objectivity, and anonymity of style. Also called ABC art, minimal art, reductivism, rejective art.

Movie: continued

So, the filming of my movie is nearly done. It's been 3 days of shooting and Im just about to import today's footage over in the digital lab.

I still have about 3-5 shots I need to get, which will hopefully come tomorrow, although because I have class from 9:30 until 8:30 it seems like those final shots may have to be done wednesday along with any others I decide are needed after reviewing my rough cut. I still need to write the scripting for the VO (voice overs for the uninitiated). I figure it'd be easier to get the rough form out first then word the general text I have around it, instead of mercilessly trying to cut the film exactly to a track I layed before hand.

Hopefully all goes well. Im working on learning some new techniques in Final Cut Pro, so hopefully that works out.

More updates soon.

Movie Project

So, because of health issues Ive been out a while and not updated this blog quite as much as I would have liked to.

Hopefully this post will mark the change of that.

So, the next project for Intro to Digital Arts class is a movie. Specifically a 2-5 minute film taped on mini-dv and edited in iMovie.

So, here is the concept of my video. Right now I've got concept, story, props, and actors but am working on filling in the details as far as the shot by shot breakdown.

Theme

The theme Im working with is the relation of violence/pain to illness and medicine in general. The quote "the worst must come before the best" is a good way to sum it up.

As I'm currently pressed on time, Ill have to post more later. But, in short the style I'm going for is somewhere between the Frank Miller Stylize/Vectorized look, and film noir in general.

Hopefully Ill have enough time to actually get some more work done before class today, and post it up here.

More Research 8/27

I've been looking alot at futurism, and thought I'd put some info on it here.

"Nonetheless the ideals of futurism remain as significant components of modern Western culture; the emphasis on youth, speed, power and technology finding expression in much of modern commercial cinema and culture. Ridley Scott consciously evoked the designs of Sant'Elia in Blade Runner. Echoes of Marinetti's thought, especially his "dreamt-of metallization of the human body", are still strongly prevalent in Japanese culture..."

Here are some images I found over various sites which I found appealing or attractive. Not sure if all are photo based, but it seems they could be.
